AIPIS.orgYou might say, what the heck does avoiding office nut cases have to do with selling income property? The harsh reality is that some people reading this blog work in an office with other actual human beings. Any time you have two human beings together, there’s a good chance at least one is a certifiable nut case. Add more people to the mix and the odds go up considerably. If you’re not prepared to identify and neutralize this wacko, your work life could become incredibly miserable. Here’s what to watch for:

The Super-Achiever: Happy is not in this guy or gal’s vocabulary. The only word that matters is success and achievement. The super-achiever simply MUST excel at everything and is way too thin skinned to handle any sort of criticism. Expect to walk away from any interaction with this particular nut with a vague feeling of incompetence, and beware the paranoia that follows in their wake.

The Rebel: The rebel hates authority and will ignore rules when it would be easier simply to follow them. Casual day is Friday, so he wears jeans and a tropical shirt on Wednesday. The rebel feeds on negativity and can be counted on to toss gasoline on an already burning fire. He’ll likely be sent first to an anger management seminar, which will do no good, so will be fired shortly afterward, leaving a trail of destruction behind.

The Procrastinator: The procrastinator will agree to any deadline and then invariably miss it. As the drop dead date approaches, count on the fact the procrastinator is nowhere to be found. He doesn’t answer his cell phone, isn’t in the office, then needs a lengthy time to recuperate from the stress of the assignment. This guy combines a lack of self confidence with an inability to comprehend what a deadline truly means.

There are plenty more office nut cases. You could probably name the Office Clown, the Persecutor, the Victim, the Rescuer, the ever-popular Office Slut and more. Don’t let them drag you down into their own private Hell or distract you from the point of being at work – to work! Avoiding and ignoring them goes a long ways.
